Applying for DDD
Understand DDD eligibility, when to apply and what happens before adult services begin.

What DDD is
New Jersey's Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) coordinates publicly funded services for eligible adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. DDD can begin determining eligibility at age 18, although adult DDD services generally begin at 21.
Full Application vs. Short Application
Families generally encounter two application paths, depending on whether eligibility has already been established through the children's system:
- Full Application. Used when developmental disability eligibility has not already been determined. It asks for documentation that supports eligibility, such as evaluations and records.
- Short Application. Used when eligibility was already determined through the children's system, so less documentation is generally requested.
