Transportation for Adults With Disabilities

Transportation can affect whether an adult can work, attend a day program, receive medical care, participate in the community or become more independent. Explore transportation before school services end rather than waiting until an adult program begins.

Depending on eligibility and location:

• NJ TRANSIT fixed-route buses and trains
• Access Link ADA paratransit
• County transportation programs
• DDD-funded transportation when included appropriately in the person’s service plan
• Transportation offered by individual service providers
• Family transportation
• Travel training
• Ride services when appropriate

Access Link is NJ TRANSIT’s ADA paratransit service for eligible individuals whose disability prevents them from independently using the local fixed-route bus system for some or all trips. Eligibility is not based only on having a disability, and an application and eligibility process is required.

For individuals receiving DDD services, transportation may be available as an authorized service depending on the person’s plan and circumstances. Discuss transportation needs with your Support Coordinator.
