I need help finding equipment or supplies

Families often need equipment, devices or supplies and are not told who requests them. This pathway explains who to ask and what to keep.

What this may involve

  • Finding out which clinician recommends the item
  • Learning who submits the request to your plan
  • Keeping copies of recommendations and decisions

Steps you can take

  1. Ask the clinician who knows your child to put the recommendation in writing.
  2. Ask that office who submits the request and what they need from you.
  3. Ask your health plan how requests for this type of item are handled.
  4. Keep copies of every recommendation, request and reply, with dates.

Questions you may want to ask

  • What exactly are you recommending, and why?
  • Who submits the request, and when?
  • What information do you need from me?
  • What should I do if the request is denied?
